Richard Rodgers(1902-1979), American Broadway musical composer. He met lyricist Lorenz Hart in 1918 and they began to collaborate, producing successful Broadway shows. After Hart's death in 1943 Rodgers worked with Oscar Hammerstein II.
Their collaborations include: Oklahoma, South Pacific, Bali Ha'i, Sound of Music, Carousel, The King and I. Rodgers was among the most exclusively Broadway-oriented of American songwriters, he also wrote symphonic music.
