Rousseau, Jean-Jacques(1)

Jean-Jacques Rousseau(1712-1779), French composer, his musical training was self-instruction which included reading Rameau's treatise on harmony and copying music. He went to Venice where he was captivated by Italian operas. Returned to Paris in 1744, his contribution was mainly for developing French opera.
